Author Michael Zielenziger with myself and Akemi. This is one of those amazing small world stories that you never get over. Several months before this picture was taken Jonathan and I read the book "Shutting Out the Sun-How Japan Created it's Own Lost Generation", which we happened to buy at Narita airport on the way to Hong Kong. We were deeply moved by this book. It's all we talked about. We told all our friends about it. This picture is taken at a Democratic dinner in New Hampshire. 3000 people were there. We sat at our table and we all started introducing ourselves. Michael was thrilled that we were from Japan and spoke some Japanese with us. Then, to our total amazement he told us he was the author of the very book we couldn't stop talking about. Our jaws dropped to the floor. We almost ignored Hillary and Obama who were speaking that night!
It is an amazing book. Do read it!
